Anton Apashkin
Guest Artist
Anton graduated from the Kazane Ballet Academy in 2001. In that same year he began working at the Mikhailovsky Theatre for both the Ballet Theatre and State Academic Opera.
He has danced in the Corp de ballet of many of the renowned classical ballets including Spatacus, La Bayadare, The Nutcracker Giselle, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. Anton has performed as a Solist in the Operas Carmen and Kniaz Igor. His dancing career has seen him tour throughout Europe and South America, and of course, Australia.
Nikolay Arzyeav

Nikolay graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St Petersburg Russia in 2003. In that same year he began working at the Mikhailovsky Theatre for both the Ballet Theatre and State Academic Opera.
Nikolay has performed as a soloist in many of the renowned classical ballets including Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadare, Le Corsaire and Spartacus. His dance career has taken him throughout Russia as well as to Italy, Japan, Australia, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
Anna Brockway
Drama Specialist, Youth Ballet WA
Anna Brockway joined the Terri Charlesworth team in the late 90s. She is an accomplished actor, director and workshop leader. Anna has had an eclectic international training with people such as Phillipe Gaulier, Monika Pagneaux, Linda Wise and Wilson McCaskill. She has also had extensive national and international touring in shows with Barking Ghekko, Company B, Black Swan, Spare Parts amongst others.
Anna has also made the transition from live theatre to television & film and has received awards for her work. She is passionate in passing on her skills to students and peers to contribute to the growth and quality of West Australian performers.
Jessica Burness

Jessica Burness began dancing at the age of 8 with the Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre. She was accepted into the Junior Professional Programme, now a part of Youth Ballet WA (YBWA), at the age of 12, later dancing in numerous YBWA productions as a soloist. In January 2007 Jessica was selected to go on the YBWA Annual Audition Tour and to participate in the Prix de Lausanne. Jessica was offered places at many schools throughout world, settling on a scholarship offer at the prestigious Heinz Bosl Academy in Munich. In Munich she has performed in both classical and modern works choreographed by Hans Van Manen and Robert North.
Ilila Chown

Ilila Chown commenced her dance studies under the direction of Terri Charlesworth OAM WA CIT. She joined the Junior Professional Programme of Youth Ballet WA (YBWA – formally Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre) in 2003 where she performed as a soloist for many years, her roles included Sugar Plum Fairy (The Nutcracker), Kitri (Don Quixote) and Princess Florine in the Blue Bird Pas de Deux (Sleeping Beauty). After performing Giselle for the late Ballerina Irina Baronova, Ilila was invited to be coached by her in the Finger Fairy Variation from Sleeping Beauty. Ilila was nominated for a West Australian Citizen of the Year Award in 2007 for her contribution to the arts. In January 2007 Ilila was selected to go on the YBWA Annual Audition tour. She had several offers, finally accepting an apprenticeship with the Dresden Semper Oper where she has been performing since March 2008.
Ellyce Daniele

Ellyce joined the Junior Professional Programme of Youth Ballet WA (YBWA - formally Terri Charlesworth Ballet Centre) in 2000. She performed in countless traditional classical ballets with YBWA as a soloist. In January 2007 Ellyce was selected to go on the YBWA Annual Audition tour. Ellyce was offered places at many schools throughout world, settling on a scholarship offer at the prestigious Princess Grace Academie de Danse Classique in Monte Carlo. She has been training under the guidance of the world famous ballet professor Marika Besobrasova.
Terence Etheridge
International Guest Artist and Specialist
Terence has been the regular choreographer for Duchy Ballet since its inception in 1997, producing classical ballets such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Coppelia, as well as the new creations Peter and the Wolf , Stepping Out To Gershwin and the much Snow Queen. Terence is now the Director of the Dance College of Cornwall based in Famouth.
In his earlier career Terence was trained in South Africa and at the Rambert School of Ballet, London. Following a period with the London Dance Theatre he became a soloist with Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet) and later ballet master with Northern Ballet Theatre. Turning to musical theatre he danced in a number of West End shows including, The Great Waltz, Showboat, and Hans Andersen. In 1980 he moved to teaching and choreography as, successively, Principal of the Rambert School of Ballet, Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Ballet and Head of Dance at the Urdang Academy, London.
Over the years Terence has enhanced his reputation as an international choreographer with assignments in Portugal, Iceland, South Africa, Scotland, Sweden Australia and Finland.
Stefan Karlson

Stefan began his professional career with the Cullberg Ballet of Sweden and later danced with Tanzforum in Germany. He came to Perth in 1979 and performed as principal dancer with Chrissie Parrott Dance Company. He has worked with many of the world’s best known choreographers including Mats Ek, Jiri Kylian, Christopher Bruce, William Forsyth, and Graeme Murphy. He has been nominated for Best Male Dancer in Ausdance WA dance awards. Stefan has choreographed for WA Ballet, West Australian Academy of Performing Arts as well as directing and choreographing Loaded with Margaret Helgeby. In 1999 this piece was nominated for Best Performance by a Company for the Ausdance National Awards. This lead to the pair launching Co Loaded with their work Aqueous becoming part of the 2005 Perth International Arts Festival. Stefan was also a member of Ausdance WA between 1996 and 2000 as well as a member of the Australia Council Dance Board from 1999 to 2001.

His soloist repertoire includes Prince Desire (Sleeping Beauty), James (La Sylphide), Pas de Trois (Swan Lake), Feb (Esmerelda) and Cherryman (Chipollino).
Kim McCarthy
International Guest Artist and Specialist
Kim was born in Perth, Australia, where he graduated from John Curtin Senior High School. In 1990 he joined the Hamburg Ballet School, and in 1991 was accepted into the Hamburg Ballet Company under the direction of John Neumeier. He was promoted to Soloist in 1993, and during his time with the Hamburg Ballet he danced many roles including several principal roles in Neumeier’s works. Kim joined the Compañia Nacional de Danza as an invited Principal dancer in 1996, where he danced many works by Nacho Duato as well as works by Forsythe, Kylián, Naharine and Van Manen. In 2002 he was offered the position of Principal Lecturer at the Showa Academy of Performing Arts in Tokyo, Japan where he taught classes in classical ballet, pas de deux, variations, repertoire, contemporary and character also choreographing and performing.
For the last few years Kim has been working as a freelance teacher and choreographer as well as staging Nacho Duato’s choreographies internationally. Kim has worked extensively with various companies such as: Royal Ballet Covent Garden,New National Theatre Tokyo, Japan, Universal Ballet Company. Korea. Juilliard school, New York, Compania Nacional Bailado, Portugal, Gothenburg Ballet Sweden, Star Dancers Ballet Company. Tokyo, L’Opera National de Lyon and Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve. Presently Kim is a Head of Dance at West Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Thomas Papathanassiou

Thomas completed his theatre training at Curtin University,WAAPA and VCA. Over the years he has performed in numerous productions and has collaborated on projects in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, including the Australian tour of Chicago - The Musical. His self-devised solo show Looming the Memory has been performed in Melbourne, the 2006 Adelaide Fringe Festival, and Perth, where it has won him Best Actor (2006 WA Guild Equity Awards) and Best Production (2007 Blue Room Theatre Awards). He has recently appeared with Hollywood screen legend Debbie Reynolds in Irene the Musical at His Majesty’s Theatre and is a member of the 2008 Hotbed Ensemble for Black Swan Theatre Company. He is also a freelance acting tutor and director.
Sergey Pevnev
Guest Artist from St Petersburg Ballet and WA Ballet
Born in St Petersburg, Russia, Sergey joined the Vaganova Ballet Academy of St Petersburg in 1986 where he studied for eight years under Professor Boris Bregvadze. After graduating in 1994 he joined the Eifman Contemporary Ballet Theatre where he worked for one year before moving on to the Maly Ballet of the Marinsky Theatre.
In 1998, Sergey progressed to the role of Principal dancer, joining the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre of Konstantin Tatchkin. During his time as Principal dancer Sergey has performed many of the major leading male roles in classical ballet.
After leaving Russia in 2004, Sergey joined the West Australian Ballet Company full time, dancing in roles such as Puck, in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Julian Craster in the Red Shoes and Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew.
Since arriving in Australia Sergey has also worked regularly with Youth Ballet WA as both a guest artist and a teacher.
Suki Schorer
Guest Artist from School of American Ballet, New York

Suki Schorer began her professional career with the San Francisco Ballet and joined the New York City Ballet in 1959, becoming a principal dancer in 1968. In the early 1960s, George Balanchine asked Ms. Schorer to assist him as a teacher at the Company and in Ford Foundation Seminars for teachers. She started as a guest teacher at the School of American Ballet while still a fairly new corps dancer in the Company and she also took class with several of the founding teachers of the School. In 1972, Ms. Schorer became a permanent member of the faculty, teaching intermediate and advanced students. That same year at Balanchine's request, she reorganised the NYCB lecture demonstration program for public schools, which she oversaw until 1995. Suki Schorer has set ballets (or ballet excerpts) choreographed by Balanchine for SAB Workshop Performances since 1973—a total of 38 stagings over 32 years.
Ms. Schorer lectures on Balanchine aesthetics and guest teaches widely in the United States and abroad. She is the author of the award-winning Suki Schorer on Balanchine Technique (Knopf, 1999) and is the recipient of the Dance Magazine Award for 1998, among other honors.
Vladimir Tsal

Vladimir Tsal graduated from the Graduate Vaganova Ballet Academy in 1997. From 1997 until present he has worked in both Ballet and Opera at the Mikhailovsky Theatre. His soloist roles have included Konrad (Le Corsaire), Abderrahman (Raymonda), Gans (Giselle), Father (La Fille Mal Gardee), Magic Horse (Konek – Gorbunok), Liege Tomato (Chipollino), Rothbart (Swan Lake), Senior East Dancer (Cinderella), Polovskie Dance (Prince Igor), Slave (La Bayadare), Captain (The Heart of Cavalry). Vladimir has toured throughout the world with his work.
Natalia Vyskubenko
Guest Artist from Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow

Principal Ballet Artist with the Bolshoi Ballet, Natalia was born in Russia in 1976. She trained at the prestigious Kiev Academy and then continued her education with the Moscow Academy of Dance. She graduated in 1994 and then joined the Bolshoi Ballet. Natalia has danced in solo roles from all over the world including Australia, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, the USA, Japan and the Philippines.
Natalia's repertoire is vast and includes Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, the Nutcracker, Les Sylphide and many more. Natalia has also won several awards including 1st Prize in Reitti International Dance Competition in Italy.
Yuri Vyskubenko
Guest Artist from Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow
Principal with the Russian State Ballet, Yuri was born in 1974. He studied at the Vaganova Academy of Ballet in Lenningrad and later the Moscow Ballet Academy. Yuri has danced as a Principal Artist since 1994 in various companies throughout the world in countries such as the USA, Australia, Finland, Japan, France, Germany, Spain and Itlay. His repertoire extends to all the major classical Ballets and some new contemporary works.
Yuri won a Gold Medal at Young Ballet of Russia Choreographic Competition in 2004 and was also the 2005 International Ballet Competition in Moscow.

Edward's passion for dance, without ever been formally taught, has landed him as one of YBWA most cherished performers dating back to 1995. He has performed in the character roles in numerous of YBWA’s productions including The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Coppelia.
